Father Martino Bá Thông Nguyen was born in Saigon, Vietnam shortly after the Vietnam War. His father was a South Vietnamese officer and both of his parents were imprisoned by the Viet Cong. Thông was persecuted for his faith for many years. His family immigrated to the United States and Thông graduated from high school in Chicago. He spent a short time with the Xaverian Missionaries in Wisconsin. He attended the University of Wisconsin and received a bachelor of arts degree in Finance in 1996. He then began hispre-theology studies at St. Mary's Seminary in Baltimore for the Diocese of Richmond, VA. In the summer of 2000, he transferred to the Diocese of Savannah. He was ordained for the Diocese of Savannah in the summer of 2004.
